Our Condolences.... 

Thelma Aline Bond, 87, homemaker, died Thursday April 24, 2008. Services were 10 a.m. Monday, April 28, Gerty United Methodist Church (Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville).  The church was filled to standing as people from all over came out for the service of song, a eulogy by long-time pastor Buddy Baltimore, and comments from the family. Burial was at the Holdenville Cemetery alongside her husband H.D. Bond. Thelma was a longtime member of our church and served in many areas including Sunday School and song leading.  Her love and fervor for God will always be remembered.

Our church is located off of E 150 at Elder Ave and 6th Street.  

Take Hwy 75 and follow signs for Gerty. 

From ALLEN:  Go east on Main, left on County Road, then turn right onto GILMORE.  Go 5 miles to the stop sign. Continue through the intersection and go another 5 miles to Gerty.

From ATWOOD:  Across from the intersection of Hwy 1 & Hwy 48, turn SOUTH.  Go 5 miles and turn left (EAST) onto E149 (Gerty Road) for 5 miles.  As you approach the west end of Gerty, there is a triangle.  Bear left and go past the Philpot Family Park.  Make the next right onto Elder and go 2 blocks to 6th.  The church is a white clapboard building on the left.

Visitor Sundays:  5th Sunday of the Month.  We alternate hosting this event with the UMC in Stuart at Roosevelt (31A) and 6th off of hwy 1/270.  Service time for this is 11:15 A.M. VISITORS ARE WELCOME *ANY* TIME! 

FELLOWSHIP POTLUCK LUNCH: 5th Sunday at either the Gerty or Stuart UMCs.  (5th Sunday schedule: March 30, 2008 @ Stuart, June 29 @ Gerty, August 31 @ Stuart, and November 30 at Gerty)

Upcoming Events:

June 2008 REVIVAL
Revival will include speakers, special music and a joyful community celebration.  

April 20 - Teaching on Passover 
This will include a seder plate with the traditional passover foods for demonstration and for telling the story of the Jews' Exodus from Egypt, and God's salvation. Special emphasis is given on how Christians can see the correlation of the Passover meal and the redemption we celebrate in Holy Communion.  

March 30 - 5th Sunday FELLOWSHIP MEAL
Every 5th Sunday we take turns hosting a joined service with our sister church in Stuart at 11:15. This time it will be at Stuart Methodist Church on 31A off Hwy 1.  Service is followed by a pot luck lunch.  

March 23 - Easter/ Resurrection Sunday
This is the a joyful celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. We rejoice in HIS life, and the life we receive by being part of his covenant.

March 16 - Palm Sunday
This is the end of the 40 days of the season of lent, and the beginning of Holy Week; the last week of Jesus' life. This day marks Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem where the crowds welcomed him as the messiah, waving palm branches in praise.

February 6 - Ash Wednesday; beginning of the season of Lent

January 6, 2008 - The Feast of THE EPIPHANY
We celebrate the season of Jesus' manifestation to the world!

November - Hanging of the Green
As we beging the Advent season, the entire church transforms from the 'ordinary' to a lavish decoration of living greens, lights, decorations, and all the beauty that is coming at Christmas.
 

Sunday, DEC 2 - Advent Begins
This is the season that prepares our minds and hearts for Christmas. It begins 4 weeks ahead and each week we light another candle as the light of Jesus' birth gets closer and closer. Join us for this heart-warming season and this year, TRULY enjoy the "peace and joy" promised in Christmas.

October 7 - SPECIAL GUEST at 6pm
Gary Horton, poet, brings us his award-winning, published 
poetry in praise.

October 7 - Combined Service at 11am, Communion, Pot Luck, & Annual CHARGE CONFERENCE
Our D.S. Dr. Sandy Wylie will preach, preside over communion, and lead us in our review of annual paperwork on our stats and plans.

September 21 - Golf Scramble
A fun event for all United Methodists in the McAlester district (men, women and youth).

5th SUNDAY - Combined Service and VISITOR SUNDAY

Worship service, preaching, prayer and a potluck lunch in the fellowship hall. 
This service also combines us with our sister church, the Stuart UMC.

Meet the Preacher:

Our preacher is Rita Bosico of Ada, Oklahoma.  She has a Bachelor's degree in Old Testament scriptures, and Music, and holds two seminary degrees -- a Master of Divinity degree, and a Master of Arts in Biblical Literature.  She leads the worship in the church service by leading the singing and playing her guitar.  She also does the preaching and prayers.
